Building a North American Business from Zero to $17M

Avant Tecno USA
Fractional Marketing Director | 2014–2018

Executive Overview

When Avant Tecno, a $110M Finnish manufacturer of compact articulated loaders, entered North America, it had revolutionary equipment, 150+ attachments, and zero brand recognition.

There was no U.S. marketing infrastructure. No internal team. No dealer network. No awareness in a market dominated by entrenched competitors.

What began as a six-month engagement became a 4.5-year fractional marketing partnership — building the brand, market presence, and revenue engine from the ground up.

The Business Context

Avant Tecno’s equipment was differentiated by versatility: one compact loader, 150+ attachments, serving construction, landscaping, agriculture, equestrian, property maintenance, and municipal sectors.

The opportunity was significant.
The visibility was nonexistent.

North American expansion required:
~ Clear multi-industry positioning
~ Media credibility across eight distinct sectors
~ Dealer recruitment support
~ Trade show authority
~ Consistent, sustained market education

This was a full U.S. market entry mandate — executed on a lean startup budget

The Strategic Mandate

The objective was not incremental awareness. It was structural market creation.

~ Establish brand authority in a crowded equipment category
~ Build an integrated B2B marketing platform across diverse industries
~ Secure sustained editorial visibility and media trust
~ Support dealer network expansion through strategic marketing infrastructure
~ Translate European engineering credibility into North American market relevance

The Transformation

Serving as Fractional Marketing Director and reporting directly to the U.S. President, I operated as the company’s sole marketing leader at 20–40 hours per month.

I architected and executed the integrated B2B marketing strategy for U.S. and Canadian expansion, including:
~ Multi-industry positioning frameworks
~ Ongoing media relations and editorial cultivation
~ Monthly product releases and quarterly press strategy
~ Content development across product narratives, customer stories, blogs, and email campaigns
~ Print and digital advertising strategy and media buying
~ Trade show strategy and execution at major industry events, including GIE+EXPO and CONEXPO-CON/AGG

This was not outsourced coordination. It was executive-level strategy paired with hands-on implementation.

Business Impact

~ Revenue scaled from zero to $17 million during the engagement
~ Dealer network expanded to 120 locations nationwide
~ Market perception shifted from “unknown Finnish brand” to innovative technology leader
~ Sustained editorial coverage established long-term category credibility
~ Initial six-month engagement extended to 4.5 years

The result was not just awareness.
